The Ultimate Guide to All PROTREKs — composed by Experts

The updated triple sensor of the third version and the case with a thickness of 14.5 mm … It seems to me or the Casio do not let go of the nostalgia of the golden era of large tracks of the early 2000s? Consider the model PRW-3510Y-1ER in a detailed review on the blog of Casio fans.

At the unpacking stage, I immediately realized that ProTrek and nature were created for each other. The wood chip package didn’t impregnate the PRW-3510Y-1ER case, but it definitely added some kind of naturalness. Or is it just that I am looking for meaning where it is not.

The flashback experience doesn’t leave the past in the past: in those days, when the development of technology was accompanied by an increase in the size of the device itself. Remember the size of the first phones? Almost all ProTrek have had such Casio. You don’t have to go far, just a couple of years ago everyone wore functional “washers” and this didn’t bother anyone. On the contrary, this image proved special tourist preferences.

Something similar happens in the PRW-3510Y. The watch is light, comfortable, functional, and at the same time everything in appearance creates a huge effect. Casio have definitely decided to return the former power of ProTrek-s to the case of PRW-3500 / PRW-3510. You look at the dial, and it is located in the outback under a huge bezel.

Such a well. I imagine the absence of a bezel and see the compact PRW-3000. Only the difference between the STN display and the usual one is seen with a bang. The first gives a certain blueness: the background is not so gray and lighter. Contrast is better, and this is its main advantage.

Nowadays, passive-matrix displays are used, which use a special liquid crystal material – STN (Super Twisted Nematic – Supercoiled Polymer). The use of this substance can significantly increase the viewing angle and image contrast.

The bezel is spinning. I don’t know to whom this makes it easier, because other “tracks” do an excellent job with the compass function even without such an addition. So it’s probably more convenient, or a large bezel should be at least functional.

The buttons are soft, “float” when pressed – pleasant to the touch. As for the information on the dial, I hardly see any differences from the PRW-3000. Overloaded with information in the form of any labels, names and identifiers – this is to PRW-3510Y-1ER.

The sensor directly protrudes from the main body, although this is a modified version of the third version. Okay, the usual design decision. We are not looking for logic.

“Specifications of PRW-3510”]

  • Super-Full-Auto LED light
If the ambient light fades, a turn of your wrist illuminates the watch display particularly brightly.
  • Low-temperature resistant (-10 °C)
Even temperatures as low as -10 °C have no effect on this watch.
  • Solar Power
A solar cell provides power for operation.
  • Radio signal reception (EU, USA, Japan, China)
Whether in Europe, North America and Japan or in the outer reaches of Canada, Central America and China – once the watch has been set to the local time, it receives the relevant signal and shows the correct time wherever you are. In many countries, it also sets itself automatically to summer and winter time.
  • Digital-compass
A built-in direction sensor detecs the magnetic north.
  • Barometer (260 / 1.100 hPa)
A special sensor measures the air pressure (measuring range: 260 / 1100 hPa) and presents this on the display in the form of a symbol. This enables early detection of weather trends.
  • 10,000 m Altimeter
A pressure sensor detects changes in the air pressure and converts the result into an altitude up to 10,000 m.
  • Height Gain
The height gain sums all the meters you have climbed in a session, so that you can see at a glance the total ascent on a tour.
  • Altimeter data memory
Depending on the model, up to 40 sets of elevation data can be stored in the watch’s data memory and re-accessed at any time. Each of these data sets consists of a measured altitude as well as the date and time. In addition to the individual altitudes, the maximum and minimum altitudes during a measurement are also stored.
  • Thermometer (-10°C / +60°C)
A sensor measures the ambient temperature around the watch and displays it in °C (-10°C /+60°C).
  • Sunrise/sunset display
After entering the geographical location, sunrise and sunset times can be displayed for any given date.
  • World time function
Displays the current time in major cities and specific areas around the world.
  • Stopwatch function – 1/10 sec – 1.000 hours
Elapsed time, split time and final time are measured with 1/10-sec accuracy. The watch can measure times of up to 1000 hours.
  • Timer – 1/1 min. – 24 hours
For fans of precision: the countdown timers help you to remember specific or recurring events by giving off an audible signal at a preset time. The time can be set to the nearest minute and up to 24 hours in advance. Ideal for people who need to take medicines every day or those who do interval training.
  • 5 daily alarms
The daily alarm reminds you about recurring events with an acoustic signal at the time you have set. This model has 5 independent alarms for flexible reminders of important appointments.
  • Snooze feature
Each time you stop the alarm, it sounds again after a few minutes.
  • Button tones on/off
The button tones for using the mode button can be turned off. This means that the watch no longer beeps when switching from one function to another. Preset alarm or countdown timers remain active when the button tones are deactivated.
  • Automatic calendar with Date, Day and Month
Once set, the automatic calendar always displays the correct date.
  • 12/24-hour timekeeping
Times can be displayed in either a 12-hour or 24-hour format.

Perfect for free diving without scuba gear: the watch is water resistant up to 20 bar according to ISO 22810.
  • Dimensions (H x W x D)
    56,9mm x 53,4mm x 14,5mm
  • Weight
    approx. 94 g

There is no question about backlighting – the perfect LED [Super Illuminator] with full background lighting. Among other amenities, I would mention solar power, radio synchronization and a silicone strap.

The latter is very soft, light and pleasantly wraps around the wrist. As is usually the case with ProTrek, there are also grasping links on the back of the case.

Conclusion

I would call PRW-3510Y-1ER a clear representative of the new era, but with old habits. The watch is very beautiful and truly touristic. I will not dissemble, such sizes are not for everyone. The case of the PRW-3000 is even much smaller in appearance, although the difference in technical characteristics is not so significant. Well, the manufacturer wanted to make large tracks, this happened in the PRW-3510 series.
