Renowned watch publication Hodinkee and acclaimed musician John Mayer have once again joined forces, this time collaborating with singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran. This exciting venture forms part of a larger project initiated by Mayer, aiming to support other artists in the creation of their own unique G-SHOCK timepieces. The project, curated by Mayer, connects participants through their shared passion for music, design, and watches. Entitled the “Hodinkee in Residence” series, the launch kicks off with the highly anticipated G-SHOCK Ref. 6900 – Subtract By Sheeran. Two additional collaborative releases are also in the pipeline but have yet to be disclosed.
Sheeran’s watch design draws inspiration from the artwork featured on his latest album, which shares the same name. This album represents the culmination of Sheeran’s mathematically themed series and embodies raw, authentic expression. The watch reflects his artistic journey, featuring a vibrant yellow resin case and strap, as well as an abstract depiction of Sheeran’s face on the dial. At the 12 o’clock position, a sketched subtraction sign, reminiscent of the album cover, adds a distinct touch. The dial showcases a medley of muted colors and the iconic G-SHOCK “Triple Graph” display, all surrounded by a vibrant yellow hue.
In addition to its artistic allure, Sheeran’s watch boasts impressive technical precision. It incorporates a 1/100th Stopwatch, a Countdown Timer, and a Multi-Function Alarm, seamlessly blending functionality with artistry. The timepiece comes packaged in G-SHOCK’s signature octagonal tin, featuring custom artwork that echoes the aesthetic of the Subtract album. Priced at $185 USD, the G-SHOCK Ref. 6900 – Subtract By Ed Sheeran, in collaboration with Hodinkee and John Mayer, will be available for purchase on October 18 at 11:00 am ET exclusively through the Hodinkee Shop.
