Towards the end of the year, the Japanese will unveil two more exciting additions to their product lineup: the DW-5600UE-1 and DW-6900UB-9. These new models come with an interesting feature – the “old timers” have been given upgraded modules. The manufacturer has made some improvements to the DW-5600 and DW-6900, including the addition of LED backlighting and an extended battery life of 5 years instead of the previous 2 years.
The DW-5600UE-1 is a descendant of the very first G-SHOCK, the DW-5000C, which holds a special place in CASIO’s history. This square-cased watch marks the beginning of the shock-resistant brand’s rapid rise to worldwide fame. If we delve deeper into its history, we’ll find similarities with the original DW-5600E-1JF, which was initially only available in the Japanese market since 1996. The “Fox Fire” inscription on the dial was later replaced by “Illuminator,” and the ancient 1545 module was upgraded to the modern 3229 module with no significant differences.
When comparing the new DW-5600UE-1 to the original DW-5600E-1JF, one noticeable difference is the addition of LED backlighting on the watch display. This new feature is more technologically advanced, energy-saving, and pleasing to the eye compared to the previous electroluminescent backlighting. This improvement also leads to a significant increase in the battery life from 2 to 5 years. Additionally, the new DW-5600UE-1 is equipped with the 3525 module, which is the third module introduced for the DW-5600 line. It’s worth noting that this is not the first DW-5600 model to receive an upgrade, as models like the DW-5600NNJ-2 and DW-5600EU-8A3 also feature LED backlighting. However, the new models have not introduced world time functionality.
A similar story can be observed with the DW-6900UB-9, which can be considered a descendant of the DW-6900B-9 from 2010. The colors, additional window trims, and inscription layout remain untouched from the original model. The functionality of the DW-6900UB-9 is nearly identical to its predecessor, with the exception of the LED backlighting and extended 5-year battery life. The module number for the DW-6900UB-9 is 3529, replacing the previous 1289 and 3230 modules. Like the DW-5600, this is the second DW-6900 model to feature LED backlighting, following the DW-6900NNJ-1.
These new products are already available for purchase on the Japanese market, with a price tag of approximately $90.
