The Ultimate Guide to All G-SHOCKs — composed by Experts

Let’s revisit the highly anticipated upcoming release of the GWG-B1000, a product we previously discussed [GWG-B1000 — Bluetooth, Sapphire and Sensor Dials]. However, this time, the Japanese brand, CASIO, has unveiled the new flagship of the MUDMASTER line, revealing its position as superior to the GWG-2000. The design of the GWG-B1000 exudes even more ruggedness, combining the essence of off-road vehicles with professional survival gear. These timepieces embody power, robustness, and sophistication, making them highly sought after by individuals in hazardous occupations such as the military, firefighters, and rescuers. The secret behind their exceptional durability lies in the skillful fusion of various materials including steel, carbon, and bioplastic. The steel bezel, treated with DLC, offers unparalleled scratch resistance, a hallmark of true flagship timepieces. The bioplastic accents above the glass are both eco-friendly and durable. Additionally, a carbon shield protects the electronic module within the case. To enhance dust and dirt resistance, the GWG-B1000 buttons are equipped with specialized gasket fittings. Impact protection is ensured by imposing steel shells. The crown features a screw lock, reinforcing a traditionally vulnerable part of the case. But that’s not all. The electronic module is encased in αGEL, a material known for its vibration-absorbing properties. Interestingly, the GWG-2000 lacks any mention of αGEL in its specifications, unlike the GWG-1000, which definitely includes it. The sapphire glass, as mentioned in our previous article, ensures utmost clarity. The case dimensions measure 58.7 × 52.1 × 16.2 mm.

Engineers have added two mini-windows to the triple sensor [barometer/altimeter, thermometer, compass]. The window at 3 o’clock displays an arrow indicating the direction to a designated point on the map, accessible through a smartphone application. The second hand points north, while the digital display provides precise degree measurements and azimuth. The predetermined point on the map can be easily changed with a single tap, although only one position can be registered at a time. It’s important not to confuse this with the Mission Log function which functions slightly differently, recording intermediate route points along with altitude and time. Both features can work simultaneously and complement one another. At 9 o’clock, a window displays the difference in altitude/barometric pressure compared to the preset point on the map, with an additional indicator for sudden pressure drops. The GWG-B1000 offers customization options for its modes, allowing users to rearrange or even delete unnecessary ones.

The functionality of this new model is comparable to that of the GWG-2000, featuring solar power, Multiband 6, an altimeter with a memory for 30 entries, world time with 33 time zones and 55 cities, sunrise/sunset time, a 24-hour stopwatch, timer, alarm clock, calendar, dual LED backlight, battery charge indicator, and 200-meter water resistance. The recommended retail price will be approximately $800. Notably, the inscription on the case back confirms that the watch will be manufactured in Japan, a symbol of exceptional quality. Initially, three color options will be available: black GWG-B1000-1A, dark green GWG-B1000-3A, and burgundy GWG-B1000-1A4. Sales are set to commence next week.
